Shortline Intermodal

Shortlines in FYM are anything smaller than the Big 7 and fall under the Shortlines heading on the TSARs. However, some of these "shortlines" are good size railroads in their own right and are labeled as Class II railroads by the FRA. Most railroads outside the Big 7 don't do a lot of intermodal business, save for the handful of switching operations that handle those chores for the Class I railroads at certain terminals. Not taking into account those railroads that do intermodal haulage for bigger railroads (notably Montana Rail Link for BNSF), there are two Class II railroads that offer their own intermodal service.

Both Florida East Coast and Iowa Interstate have built a sizeable IM timetable, with FEC basically having a lock on the East Florida IM trade. Listed below are each railroads intermodal terminals:

Florida East Coast
FL: Fort Pierce, 1405
FL: Fort Lauderdale, 1824
FL: Jacksonville Bowden Yard, 1656
FL: Miami Hialeah Yard, 1077
FL: Port of Palm Beach, 1589
FL: Titusville, 2607
Iowa Interstate
IA: Council Bluffs IAIS, 1115
IL: Chicago Burr Oak Yard, 2126
